Help prevent the "summer slide" - the loss of learning caused by lack of practice of academic skills during the summer months. It doesn't take much to help your child retain what they've learned this past school year! Here are a few easy things to try:
*Read together every day
*check out the summer reading program through the public library for fun learning activities and to encourage reading (the library also has digital books that can be checked out at home!)
*Take turns making up stories with your child. Create a shared story together. One person starts and then someone else adds on. Let your imaginations flow...
*Practice math facts using flash cards - turn it into a game to see who can get the answer the fastest. Flash cards can be easily made with note cards or purchased at the dollar store. Or use sidewalk chalk to practice math facts (and get some fresh air and sunshine at the same time!)
*Tune into educational programming on PBS (see below)
Learning together can be a ton of fun!
